As a former professional Outdoor Educator, and as a natural lover of Mother Nature, I believe in teaching my kids to "Pack it in and pack it out." On our last trail hike, we came upon what we believe was an old trash dump site. This was such a great opportunity to show my kids about the impact of littering and not taking care of our Earth, especially since they've been little litter bugs in their own backyard. If you would like to incorporate Leave No Trace into your nature study, or just want to teach your kids about stewardship, you can download a complete game and activity based program to use with your kids from the Boy Scouts at Teaching Leave No Trace. You can also contact your local REI store to learn more about the Promoting Environmental Awareness with Kids (PEAK) program and learn how you can get an REI backpack filled with Leave No Trace materials.

Beautiful photos!! Thanks for the info. REI has such great programs for kids. We always print up the adventure passport from their site when we go hiking - after you complete it, you can mail it in and receive a free gift, like binoculars!
oh my goodness, what wonderful pictures.
What a cool program! Thanks for sharing!! I wish it was a little bit cheaper :( I will definitely have to keep it in mind though for coming years! <3 Glad you see you posting again!!
I love the tree photo!
gorgeous photos. and thanks for the resources. my kids are VERY anti-littering. my daughter says, "oh, an idiot has been here" when she sees a piece of trash on the side of the road. i think that they would really enjoy the activities on your links.
What a fun and beautiful blog you have~
Beautiful photos. Thank you for the reminder. You should send those to a conservation website. The blue bottle looks like a cool find, though.
I gave you an award!
