My Ratings:

(see codes in the sidebar)

First, I got my "Mommy's Little Helper." Yea, we have resorted to name tags around here. It is surprisingly very motivating! Little Snail got to pick out her fabric, her binding, and designed the apron herself. She said that she wanted a "princess horse apron." She also picked some vintage "rick a rack" from my Grandmother's stash.

If you purchase the E-Pattern, print off everything. I spent 20 minutes looking for the notions and yardage list. If I had read every single document in the file, I would have easily seen it. Printing off the pattern and putting it together was easy. But, if you don't follow her exact directions and watch the video for how to do it, you might get lost. I did not like that the pattern pages were not numbered. I messed up one of the pages when I tried to reposition my tape. It would have been easier to print off that specific page number. No problem, though, I just went back to the PDF file and matched up the page I needed to print.

Here is the pattern laid out, ready to tape together.

Here is the waste from the pattern. That's a lot of paper and ink! (I wish each size had its own pattern, to eliminate waste) .

Here is my size 4 pattern, cut out and ready to go.

Little Snail is wearing the size 4 Girl's Edwardian Apron. She also got "dressed up" for the picture with her princess dress-up clothes.

I love how this apron is designed. I like the criss-cross ties and the loops that they go through. I also like the pocket construction...very easy to do! I like how the sides of the pockets are in the seams of the apron.

Jennie, the owner of Sense & Sensibility says in the pattern instructions that the front of the apron is "your canvas." Well, of course I had to add an applique princess horse!

Thanks to my mom for giving me this fancy yarn! It makes great horse hair!

If you have never sewn before and want to teach yourself how to sew, buy the E-Class. Not only will you get step by step pictures of sewing the pattern, you get audio of the teacher telling you how to do it and you also get video of the teacher showing you how to do it. This pattern has three things that will be a little challenging (but not "pull your hair out" challenging) to someone who has never sewn before: putting together an E-Pattern, sewing on a curve, and attaching binding. If this will be your first time sewing, I suggest you get some old fabric (I like bed sheets) to practice with before using "good," expensive fabric. This pattern is great for someone who is learning to sew (if you are a beginner, I would get the E-Class), for an adult teaching a child how to sew, and would be easy for intermediate to advanced sewers.

This pattern calls for binding. You can use store bought (I did), but making your own can make the apron look a lot better. Jennie takes you step by step in making your own binding. You can also check out these resources:

Tutorial for making your own binding without a tool.
Angry Chicken's video on making binding.

I am a lazy sewer. I did not bind the neck line and straps. Instead, I just hemmed them. I also used store bought binding on the pockets. The embellishments are my own (rick rack and applique) and are not in the pattern.

I love this pattern! It took me about 45 minutes to print and tape the pattern together. It took me about 3 hours to make the apron. I am going to make some more aprons for Little Snail with this pattern. Big Snail is also asking for a "dinosaur apron." We will use our aprons for art projects, cooking, and cleaning. Little Snail wants to wear hers to church! I think I will also buy the Girl's Regency Dress pattern to go with the apron. I love the Sense & Sensibility patterns because modesty in clothes for my kids is very important to me. I love the "Little House on the Prairie" look for Little Snail and plain to make her some cute peasant dresses.

That is really cute. I have only done a simple e-pattern...the purse I made. The apron turned out great!

I LOVE her patterns, and have taken a class with her before over email. I also love that she has lots of advice on how to change her dresses. I used her advice to change her Regency dress into a maternity dress to go to a Ren Fest.

I don't sew, but I think that apron is adorable! I think it came out great. :)

Very cute - thanks for the resource!

During my older girl's Mary and Laura blitz, I made my girls 'Little House' nightdresses. So cute. I'll look up the pattern later and put pictures on my blog for you.

I love the horse applique! So cute! I'm not a sewer typically, but this pattern may have converted me.
Great review!

Love the princess outfit! :) I don't dare to let my little girl see these pictures, or she'll want one just like it.

Nice review! I love how you included her in the process and I love your applique on the front. She looks so cute in it!

Before you take my images, you'd better ask me first. I request that if, and when, you use my information and pictures, you provide proper credit and citation. A link back to my blog is nice, too. I love to give permission to really nice people. In fact, I have never said no. If you steal anything from my site, I get to be mean to you. Really mean. And I am smart enough to catch you being sneaky, too.
