What's in the [work]BOX: Handmade File Folder Games
Several of my homeschooling friends are using file folder games in their workboxes. Some have found pre-made file folder games at The Dollar Tree, Wal-Mart, or teacher stores. Some have bought books that teach you how to make your own.
I'm a frugal momma so I am going to share with you how you can do this on your own while on a budget. Go to the thrift store, yard sales, the dollar store and purchase educational workbooks. They even can be used!
Here are two that I am using now:
This one is used and was $.10.

1. You will need two large paint chip cards. These are from Lowe's.

3. You are going to want to fold the other paint chip "long ways."

4. Fold the edges on 3 sides of the second paint chip by about 3/4".
eas on what to make....no need for me to buy books with templates...and no need for me to purchase pre-made ones. And, because I used grade specific workbooks, my file folder games will be age and developmentally appropriate! Have fun! And, oh yeah, in case you want an update...it has been 2.5 weeks! Go me!

sitting on the edge of my seat! I can't wait to see what you're going to do - I love file folder games, but hate spending the money!
Hee hee...I think the Lowe's people are scared to see me coming.
Perhaps it's time to move to Home Depot...
Haha! I am out of paint chips and need to make a trip. The last time I was there, the guy was eyeing me like I was stealing. I just walked by and said, "I'm a teacher." And he nodded. Seriously, my hands were full.
I love your file folder ideas. I recently became the recipient of a few boxes of old, unwritten in workbooks. I had planned on giving them away-- not anymore!! Thank you for sharing!
Call me lazy, but just thinking about "over 100 file folder games" is way too much work for me! ;)
Way to go on the 2.5 weeks!!!!
love them!!! i am going to be busy this weekend!!! you so rock!!!
Great idea to turn workbooks into hands-on learning fun! I've always like file folder games for my classroom for center time. I've made a few for my girls as well.

This is so neat! I'm "ok" at creative things, but I need lots of visuals to get me going... this is so great!! I love your blog! :) Thanks for taking the time to post lots of pictures.
These are fabulous ideas. I'm so excited to play with my son doing some of these things :)
I'm definitely going to be including some file folder games in our workboxes! Thx!
Thanks so much for your ideas. I have no art ability and so I deeply appreciate your step-by-step instructions w/ photos. Can't wait to incorporate these for my preschoolers!
Wow! I am enjoying your blog soooo much, you have brilliant ideas! We made an alphaboard this morning using a alpha stamp set and paint chips, the whole family got involved in the creative process. I just love homeschooling it's a great excuse to use and buy scrapbooking products. They never go to waste we use them for lots of school activities, especially the large punches. In Australia we don't have paint chips with square cut outs so I used a square punch out of my scrap stuff! We are going to try making this game tomorrow. Thanks again!
