Making Mountains, Rivers, and Lakes

We have been learning about how mountains, rivers, and lakes are formed. We have been watching Fearless Planet on The Discovery Channel. This show is absolutely wonderful. We also have a new favorite, Amazing Planet. Amazing Planet on The National Geographic Channel is the best geological movie we have ever seen. Today we went outside to make our own geological formations.

Big Brother sprayed her with the hose. Aww, poor little snail!

We learned that soil, sand, and clay feel different when they are wet. In this picture, Big Snail is showing that some mountains were formed by "land mashing together."

We have been learning a lot in geology. It seems to be Big Snail's favorite topic of study lately. Aunt Snail, the geologist, is going to be helping me make some geology activities just for young kids. If there is interest, I will put the activities up on The Snail's Trail. Let me know if this is something you could use!

That looks like so much fun. My kids would love to play in the mud like that, so far they have only had dirt and puddles separately.

I would be interested in geology activities.

Before you take my images, you'd better ask me first. I request that if, and when, you use my information and pictures, you provide proper credit and citation. A link back to my blog is nice, too. I love to give permission to really nice people. In fact, I have never said no. If you steal anything from my site, I get to be mean to you. Really mean. And I am smart enough to catch you being sneaky, too.
