Hibachi Scares & Chopsticks
After finding my Japanese bento lunch box and some origami from my childhood, the kids have been wanting to learn about Japan. Last night we went to a Japanese restaurant.
We told Little Snail that the chef was going to make a big fire. But nothing could have prepared her for the shock of her life. Bless her heart. She jumped out of her chair! The party of strangers was more amused by Little Snail than the fire.
Big Snail learned how to use chopsticks. The waitress used a piece of paper and a rubber band to make them like trainer chopsticks. He did great! He loves them and wants to eat all of his food with chopsticks now.

After we ate, Momma Snail got a new pair of shoes! These are from Target.

The first time we went to a Japanese steakhouse, my youngest two nearly jumped out of their skin when the chef lit the fire! My youngest stayed buried under her dad's arm until the entire cooking show was over. My middle simply sat glued to my side.
My husband and I went to our favorite Japanese place for a date night once and noticed that the mom of the family sitting next to us kept talking to an empty chair between her and her two children.
She finally noticed us watching, curiously, and confessed that her four-year-old was hiding under the table and would come out as soon as the "fire part" was over.
She did...and was happy as a clam for the rest of the meal.
I love Japanese steakhouses. ;-)
We seem to be on the same page a lot. Rick and I were just talking earlier this afternoon about how it is about time we took Gerrick to one of these places. :)
What a fun idea! I think we should take Princess to one of these places in the near future!
P.S. Love the shoes!!
How fun!! I {heart} Japan, after being stationed there for a year. The peeps are just plain fab. Reminds me: I've been cleaning out our garage this month, bit by bit, and found an old pic from our long-ago adventures with Japan and its food, when my oldest were only 5 and 7. I'm going to post it for Wordless Wednesday, except I'll be adding a few words of explanation, of course. It is priceless and, believe it or not, completely not staged !! :D
They are the best with little kids, because they are so much in awe of everything they're doing.
