Felt Clown Mask

We are still learning in our circus studies. Big Snail is most interested in clowns and acrobats at the moment. He wanted to be a clown today and asked if I could make him an outfit.

Big Snail is allergic to Red Dye #40 so I knew that I could not use store bought or handmade face paint that used dyes. We can't take the chance of it absorbing into his skin. I found some organic face paint made with plant dyes but it was over $50.00. So that, too, was out of the question. I looked into clown masks, the kind you get at Halloween, but I really don't want him inhaling the chemicals from plastic and PVC. I didn't want to give up on him being a clown so I came up with this:

A clown mask made out of felt! It took me a little over an hour to make it because the hair, eyes, and nose are hand sewn. He said that his clown name is Marvin and he loves to say, "wubba, wubbba, wubba."

For Christmas, I made him a super hero mask and star power cuffs out of felt. I will see if I can find them and I will post them, too.

Now he wants an elephant mask, a tiger mask, and a ring master costume. I am really tickled with how this came out. I am happy that it is felt and we don't have to worry about anything toxic getting into his body.

Sounds like you are going to be very busy making masks! More proof of just how creative you are and completely deserving of the award. :)

Your kids must have the best time with you! I love all these crafts!

Before you take my images, you'd better ask me first. I request that if, and when, you use my information and pictures, you provide proper credit and citation. A link back to my blog is nice, too. I love to give permission to really nice people. In fact, I have never said no. If you steal anything from my site, I get to be mean to you. Really mean. And I am smart enough to catch you being sneaky, too.
