Art Exploration: Yo-Yo Painting

Today we "yo-yo" painted, as Big Snail calls it. To make the "yo-yo's," I used old tights, cut the legs off, filled with dried beans, and tied them off. Next, I filled an old pan with different colors of paint and we headed outside. I love the results! We are going to be using these paintings in a project that we are working on for our circus unit.

This was a lot of fun, quick and easy.

How COOL! Love that I already have the neded materials. This is going to be a weekend project. Thank you for participating!

My little one has the same green boots and would wear them everywhere if we would let her :)

This is going on my list of things to do when the snow melts. The final result is really pretty!

I've seen those boots before (or at least similar ones), and always think how cute they are every time I pass them in the store.

This is a fantastic idea! Sunnyboy would love to do this.

Thank you for your lovely comment on my blog. (Storing dressing-up clothes in bags on peg hooks is a great idea that I hadn't thought of. We're putting up more hooks this weekend so I think I'll do that too.)

Also, I love your header photo, it's adorable!!

I LOVE this idea and plan to try it with Caty. Did you just use tempera? Elena

Momma Snail March 14, 2009 12:33 PM

I used tempera paints by Parents Choice (some from a Christmas Present). They are very bright!

What denier Tights did you use...? they look like 70 denier...? where did you get them from...? did you use Brand new Tights ..?

Momma Snail April 14, 2009 11:08 AM

I am not sure what kind of tights we used. They were just some that we had in the closet. I got them from my closet. I bet that any kind of tights or panty hose will work.

I really, really love this project! I want to do things like this with my kids when they get a little bigger.

Oh! We're going to have to try this with our art group next Friday, what fun!

I have run a cooperative day camp for about 15 years. Here are several ideass that I have done with this art project. Put a step ladder and have the kids drop this from a higher level to see what will happen! If you tape a shirt down onto a tarp and use fabric paint you can get a really cool t-shirt out of this too! Matching mom and child shirts??!!
